All stripping is hand done. We do it by hand, rather than by tank dipping, in order to preserve the furniture from harsh chemical that would saturate the wood and ruin it. The wood is stripped clean with premium chemicals and neutralized with a special agent to remove residue and silicone. The final product is clean and ready for sanding and finishing.
Repairing the furniture is part of the process. Missing veneer is replaced, broken or missing pieces are remade or repaired, chairs dowels are replaced and reglued as necessary. We do whatever is necessary to preserve the integrity of the piece and restore it to its original condition.
After we strip, sand and repair the furniture, you come to our shop and pick a custom color. If there is a particular color you want, we can match it. Once the selection is made, your custom finish is applied by spraying or wiping. We use shellac, tung oil, lacquer and special catalyzed finishes for beauty and durability. Our specialties are antiqued and rustic finishes, solid paint finishes and all wood colors.
When a piece is restored rather than refinished, it is not stripped. Restoration is done for many reasons. If the piece is antique, it is restored in order to retain its authenticity and value. On a newer piece, if the finish is in sufficiently good condition, restoration is a less costly option.
